Viime viikon sateesta ja myrskystä huolimatta täällä alkoi virallisesti kevät nyt menneenä viikonloppuna, ja sitä juhlistettiin monella tapaa, juhlat ilmeisesti jatkuvat vielä ensi viikonloppunakin. Lauantaina vietin Rochassa, joka on noin puolen tunnin päässä täältä, lähin hiukan isompi kaupunki. Siellä kevään juhlintaan kuului nuorten 5 km juoksutapahtuma, johon osallistuin siskon luokan mukana. Juhlintaan kuului myös afrouruguaylaista musiikkia candombea ja hyvää ruokaa. Sunnuntaina aamulla heti herättyäni perhe hoputti, että Martta äkkiä, nyt lähdetään, ainoa mitä ymmärsin, oli että mennään johonkin perinnetapahtumaan ja maaseudulle. Selvisi että kyseessä oli vielä toinen fiesta de la primavera maalla, tällä kertaa fiesta de la primavera gaucha, vanhoja gauchojen (maaseudun alkuperäisasukkaat, nykyisin nimeä käytetään kaikista maaseudun ihmisistä tällä alueella) perinteitä mukaillen. Kansantanssien lisäksi juhlintaan tuolla kuului jotain rodeota muistuttanutta ratsastusta ja sonnien kilpaa lassoamista - kaikki muisttutti jonkin verran pohjoisamerikkalaista cowboy -kulttuuria.
Despite the rain and storms of last week, the spring has officially started here! The beginning of spring was celebrated in several ways, and I have heard that the celebrations are to be continued also next weekend. On Saturday I was in Rocha and took part in a running event with my sister's class, it was part of fiesta de la primavera there, continued by afrouruguayan music candombe and good food. On Sunday then, right when I woke up, my family told me to hurry up and be ready to leave for some kind of traditional event to the countryside (or that was all I understood...). I found out, that it was another fiesta de la primavera at the countryside, this time fiesta de la primavera gaucha, with all kinds of traditions of gauchos (native people at the countryside, nowadays the name is used of all the people living at the countryside at this region). The celebrations there included dance and some horseback riding similar to rodeo, everything somehow remindered me of North American cowboys.

Muutoin elämä täällä on arkistunut ja muuttunut mun silmissä tavalliseksi, se on ehkä ihan hyvä merkki siitä, että olen tottunut ja sopeutunut jo aika hyvin. Kevään tullen ja erityisesti tällä viikolla paikasta riippuen joko ma-ti tai to-pe olevan kevätloman takia täällä alkaa pikkuhiljaa olemaan enemmän ihmisiä. Kaduilla alkaa myös satunnaisesti kuulemaan portugalia ja brazileroa brasilialaisten turistien ja kesäasukkaiden myötä. Koulu sujuu hyvin, vaikka sitä olikin viime viikolla vain maanantaina, myrskyvaroituksien takia tunteja peruttiin ahkerasti, vielä ahkerammin kuin tavallisesti. Täällä kun opettajien tai suuren oppilasjoukon puuttuminen on ihan arkipäivää ja näistä syistä tunteja perutaan jatkuvasti.
Otherwise my life here starts to feel really normal and usual, it's probably a good sign of adapting better to the culture and lifestyle. Since the spring is here and especially because of this weeks spring holidays, the city starts to be more full of people. Sometimes you can also hear Portuguese or brazilero at the streets due to the amount of Brazilian tourists and summer residents. The school is also going well, even though last week we had lessons only on Monday, the storm and official warnings of exceptionally windy weather caused that all of the lessons were cancelled until Friday. That was a lot, even though here it's completely normal to have one or two classes missing in a day due to absent teachers or so many absent students.
Kuten kuvista taas huomaa, en tule ikinä kyllästymään näihin rantoihin ja mereen! Yksi parhaista jutuista täällä mitä tiedän on pyöräillä tai kävellä yksin rannalla tai istua rantahiekalla kavereiden kanssa vaikka kesken koulupäivän! Ja meri on joka päivä erilainen, ja esimerkiksi viime viikolla juuri ennen useamman päivän kestänyttä myrskyä otetut kuvat näyttävät aivan erilaisilta kuin nyt alkuviikolla otetut. Vaikka nyt vielä rannoilla onkin kovin tuulista ja kylmää, kesä on tulossa, siitä kertovat myös monet nyt viikonloppuna auenneet kahvilat, jäätelökioskit ja ravintolat. Kesä on pian täällä!
As you can see from the pictures again, I won't ever get tired of these beaches and the sea! One of the best things to do here is to go cycling or walking at the beach or sit at the beach with friends in the middle of a schoolday! And the sea is different every day, and for example the photos I took last week just before a storm of a few days look totally different than the ones I have taken now at the beginning of this week. Even though now it's still windy and cold at the beaches, the summer is coming, one promise of that are the cafes, restaurants and ice cream stands that opened now the past weekend and that are opening soon. The summer is soon here!
