Täällä kirjoittelee 16-vuotias Etelä-Pohjanmaalta kotoisin oleva, helsinkiläistynyt IB-lukiolainen, joka suuntaa ensi syksynä vuodeksi Uruguayhin vaihto-oppilaaksi. Järjestönä mulla toimii AFS, ja heillä Argentiina ja Uruguay toimivat yhteistyössä, joten mulla on pieni mahdollisuus siihen, että sijoitus tuleekin Argentiinan puolelle, jos Uruguaysta ei löydy perhettä.
Hi. I'm a 16-year-old girl, currently based in Helsinki and studying in an IB-program. Next autumn I will leave to Uruguay for a year as an exchange student. My organization is AFS and I've really liked it. AFS Argentina and Uruguay work together, so that means there's a little opportunity that I'll go to Argentina if they don't find a family for me from Uruguay.

Moni on kysellyt, miksi valitsin kohdemaakseni juuri Uruguayn, johon mun täytyy vastata, että se oli rakkautta ensisilmäyksellä. Minun piti alun perin lähteä Hong Kongiin, mutta olisin kuitenkin ollut lähtöhetkellä liian vanha sinne, ja sain tuon jälkeen viikon lisäaikaa valita uusi kohdemaa. Vaihtoehdoiksi mulle pääsi Japani, Kiina, Brasilia, Costa Rica, Itävalta, Ranska, Uruguay ja Argentiina. Mietin niitä pitkään ja lopulta kärjeksi valikoitui Uruguay, Brasilia ja Costa Rica, joista AFS:n toimiston työntekijän soitettua sanoin fiiliksellä että "Uruguay". Tällä hetkellä en kuitenkaan voisi olla maavalintaani yhtään tyytyväisempi, tuo jännittävä pieni lattarimaa tuntuu oikein ihanalta ja sopivalta!
Many people have been asking, why I chose Uruguay as my host country, and I've to answer that i was love at very first sight. At first I was going to Hong Kong, but there was a problem with my age, I would have been too old at the moment when I was supposed to leave, and after that I got a week more time to choose a new host country. I had many alternatives such as Japan, China, Brazil, Costa Rica, Austria, France, Uruguay and Argentina. I had to think about it and eventually the top three countries were Uruguay, Brazil and Costa Rica. When the AFS-officer called me, I just said "Uruguay" without really considering it anymore. But now I couldn't be happier with my host country, that little Latin American country seems to be lovely and right for me!

Mulla on kaikki hakupaperit valmiina, joten nyt ennen viisumia kaiken pitäis olla kunnossa. Rokotuksia täytyy pian alkaa ottamaan, niitä on aika paljon, ja espanjaakin täytyy opiskella. Tervetuloa seuraamaan mun ajatuksia ja matkaa ennen vaihtovuotta ja sitten aikanaan elämää siellä lattareissa!
I've got all my applications for the year done so now before the visa application everything should be already done. I have to start taking the vaccinations soon, there's quite many of them when travelling to Uruguay and I have to start studying Spanish as well. Welcome to follow my thoughts before the exchange year and then someday, to follow the life in Latin America!
