Buenas, Saludos de Estados Unidos!
Viimeisimmän päivityksen jälkeen on tapahtunut niin paljon kaikkea vaihtovuoteen liittyvää (ja muutakin!) että varmasti unohdan mainita jotain tärkeää! Maa- ja lentotiedot ovat tulleet, valmennusleiri ollut, oleskelulupaa varten tarvittavat paperit on täytetty ja haettu, AFS:n maakohtainen valmennuspaperipino läpikäyty ja rokotuksia otettu. Silti musta tuntuu että jotain olen varmasti unohtanut. Ja ainiin, olen ostanut ison punaisen matkalaukun (<3), sinipunaisen Pikku Myy-tagin laukkuun ja vaaleanpunaisen passikotelon.
So many things have happened after my last update here, that I'll sure forget to mention something important! I've got the info on my host country and flights, we have had an orientation camp, all the papers for my residency permit are ready, I've went through the orientation material from AFS as well as taken some vaccinations. Somehow I still feel like I have forgotten something. Might be. And then I have bought a big red suitcase (<3), and a Little My tag to it and a pink passport holder.
Ensin kaikkein tärkein, eli AFS:n Buenos Airesin toimisto vahvisti että sijoitukseni tulee olemaan URUGUAYN puolella. Parasta ja vähän pelottavaakin, tuonne pieneen jännittävään maahan halusinkin!
The most important first, so the AFS office in Buenos Aires confirmed that my placement will be in URUGUAY! That's really great, and also a bit scary, in a good way, I wanted to go to that small and exciting country and I get to go there!
Samana päivänä maan vahvistumisen kanssa tulivat lentotiedot, ja minä ja toinen Uruguayhin suuntaava vaihtari lähdemme yhdessä Argentiinaan menijöiden kanssa 18.8! Ensin Helsingistä illalla kohti Pariisia ja sieltä Argentiinaan menevät Buenos Airesiin ja me Uruguayhin suuntaavat (myös muualta Euroopasta Uruguayhin tulevat) lennämme Sao Paulon kautta Montevideoon.Vuorokausi matkustamista siis yhteensä.
I got all the flight information the same day as I got to know my host country. I and the other Finnish exchange student going to Uruguay are leaving together with the people going to Argentina on 18th of August. First, Helsinki to Paris and then students to Argentina will fly to Buenos Aires and we (also the other European exchange students to Uruguay) are flying via Sao Paulo to Montevideo. It'll be about 24 hours of travelling then in total.
Toukokuun lopussa oli AFS:n järjestämä kaikille vaihtoon lähtijöille pakollinen orientaatioleiri, ja viikonlopun aikana kävimme läpi vaihtovuoteen liittyviä odotuksia ja omia ajatuksia, käytännön asioita ja sääntöjä ja vinkkejä. Itse en päässyt lattareihin lähtijöiden leirille, joten mun leirillä suurin osa porukasta oli lähdössä jonnekin päin Eurooppaa ja siten maakohtaiset ohjeet ja kokemukset jäi multa kuulematta. Onneksi kuitenkin on ystäviä jotka lähtevät kanssani kohti Latinalaista Amerikkaa.
In the end of May we had an orientation camp, which AFS arranges to all of its exchange students. During the weekend we went through plenty of stuff related to the exchange year, our own thoughts, practical issues, rules and tips. I myself wasn't able to attend the camp for people going to Latin America, so at my camp most of the people were going to somewhere in Europe. That way all the info that was specific to certain host countries, as well as the experiences of former students were something I didn't get to hear. Luckily I still have many friends that are going o Latin America with me.
Vaihtaripaperisota on vihdoin voiton puolella ja oleskelulupaa varten tarvittavat paperit on vihdoin lähetetty AFS-toimistolle. Espanjankieliset virkatodistus ja rikosrekisteriote, matkustuslupa, muita lupapapereita ja kopiot jokaisesta passini sivusta. Uruguayhin en siis tarvitse viisumia, vaan oleskelulupa haetaan vasta lentokentällä saavuttaessa Montevideoon. Niin ja uusi passi mun täytyi hakea, että se olisi voimassa vielä vuoden paluun jälkeen.
Finally most of the paperwork required for the exchange year is completed and papers have finally been sent to the AFS office in Helsinki. Different official certificates, records and consent letters as well as copies of every single page of my passport. I don't need a visa to Uruguay, but the residency permit will be applied at the airport when arriving in Montevideo. An so, I needed to apply for a new passport because it must be valid yet for a year after my return from Uruguay.
Rokotuksista vielä kaksi on ottamatta, ne otan elokuun alussa. AFS:n lähettämissä valmennusmateriaaleissa ja turvallisuusohjeissa on niissäkin vielä vähän läpikäymistä ja tietenkin espanjaa täytyy kerrata. Tuliaisista osa on jo mietittynä, mutta kaikki vielä hankkimatta. Samoin pakkaamista en ole vielä ehtinyt miettiä, joten ne ovat to do-listani kärjessä, kun palaan täältä Amerikan mantereelta heti elokuun alussa. Mulla on siis kaksi viikkoa aikaa nauttia Suomen kesästä ennen lähtöä, ja toivon, että ehdin tavata mahdollisimman monia ystäviä ja rakkaita ja että ehdin hoitaa tarvittavat jutut rauhassa. Odotan kuitenkin innolla, reilu kuukausi seikkailun alkuun!
I still have two vaccinations to go, and I'll take them in the beginning of August. Also the orientation material from AFS as well as all the safety instructions and tips need to be studied a bit more. Some of my gifts to my future host family have already been planned, but I haven't bought anything yet, so that's another thing to do. Packing too is on my to do- list when I get home from America right in the beginning of August. It means that I have two weeks left to enjoy the Finnish summer before my departure, and I hope that I'll see as many friends and loved ones as I just can and that I'll get all the needed things arranged nicely in time. Anyway, I'm really excited, just a bit over a month until
the adventure starts!
